Closely Guarded Secrets by Michael Close
English | Michael Close | 1996 | PDF | 185 Pages | 187M
Genre: Magic

The 179 pages of Closely Guarded Secrets contain 18 chapters. The ebook begins with two introductory chapters. The first is casual in nature, allowing me the opportunity to fill you in on what’s been happening in my life. The second chapter is more formal; it explains the theory behind the ebook. In this chapter I also discuss my desire to make my performances feel theatrically real to my audiences. It is not my goal to make my spectators believe that I am doing real magic. But during my performance I never want to take the audience “out of the show” by reminding them that I’m doing tricks. I do this by creating handlings that (as much as humanly possible) match the way I would handle the props if I had the power of a real magician. You’ll find that this philosophy has been applied to every routine in CGS.

Richard Kaufman The secrets of brother John Hamman
Publisher: Richard Kaufman and Alan Greenberg | English | 1989 | PDF | 252 pages | 158M
Genre: Magic

This is a massive collection of Brother John's best card work with over 80 routines. Rather than presenting separate sections for sleights and effects, this book shows you the necessary sleights as they are needed by a particular effect. Most of the effects in this book are simple but ingenious and some have been featured in other collections such as "Michael Ammar's Easy to Master Card Miracles" series. For the most part, they do not require any difficult sleight-of-hand but this does not take away from their effectiveness. The book talks about not just how each effect works, but why it works. This is very important due to the psychological subtleties that Bro. John includes in most of his work. Even if you don't use any of the effects in this book, a lot can be learned from the psychological theories presented, most notably those dealing with mental misdirection.

In the early 1930s, Annemann took out ads in some cheap magazine (Real French Capers and Real Tempting Tales). When Annemann made some disparaging remarks about Burling Hull in an issue of the Jinx, Hull published "The Linx" in 1936. In the one page (and only) issue, he dug up the ads and reproduced them for all to see.
The Jinx was a Magic Periodical edited and published by Ted Annemann, also its major contributor, in Waverly, New York.
